Ice Hockey Splits Weekend in Albany

Friday, January 19th, SHU club ice hockey beat Siena College 6-2, sweeping the season series against the conference opponent. SHU went down early, giving up a power play goal before adding two of their own. The Pioneers opened the second period strong, when graduate student Scott Martin scored his second goal of the game. Junior Jack Pardue scored before the end of the second period and junior goaltender Brandon Rozzi shut out Siena in the third to secure the win.

Saturday, January 20th, the Pioneers couldn’t quite complete the comeback, falling to RPI 7-5. SHU struck first, when junior Jack Pardue scored just 2 minutes into the game. RPI got on the board with a goal just 5 minutes later and SHU was stuck playing catch up the rest of the game before securing the win with an empty net goal. Graduate student Mike Vaiano was dominant for SHU, scoring the other 4 goals and assisting Pardue to start the game. This marks only the fifth time all season the Pioneers have been beaten in regulation.

Sacred Heart is currently ranked 13th in the Northeast and 4th in the SECHL. This weekend, the Pioneers hit the road to take on #1 William Patterson University Friday, January 26th at 8:30pm. They return home Saturday, January 27th against Bryant University at 8pm. Home games are played at Wonderland of Ice 123 Glenwood Avenue Bridgeport, CT.
