Calton, Such, and Cimino Brothers Selected for RUNY U20 Assembly

Fairfield, CT-  Four of SHU’s Men’s Rugby players have been selected for the RUNY U20 player pool. Rugby United New York, known as RUNY, is a professional rugby union team based in New York City that is a member of Major League Rugby. Sacred Heart’s Bryan Calton, Aaron Such, Mario Cimino, and Anthony Cimino are invited to participate in the RUNY U20 Assembly to take place the week of May 20th. The assembly will comprise of 2-3 evening training sessions after which players will be selected for a team to play a curtain raiser match inside MCU Park in Brooklyn, NY. The match is set for May 26th.

Freshman Bryan Calton started his collegiate career at wing for the Xmen this fall, but quickly transitioned to scrumhalf. A native of Ridgewood, NJ, Bryan was a state qualifier for wrestling at Ridgewood High School before committing to rugby full time. Sophomore Aaron Such co-captains the Xmen this season and just completed his second year starting at hooker for SHU, helping take the team to back to back conference championship games. Such has anchored the front row during his time here at SHU and is a proven leader both on and off the field. Sophomore Mario Cimino has demonstrated his superior athleticism as a 2 sport athlete for the club sports program. Mario competes for the Xmen as a utility back line player and was also a member of the 2017 National Championship club football team. His brother Anthony joined the squad after transferring into SHU this spring, bringing a wealth of rugby experience. Last year, he captained Xavier High School, ranked #4 team in the nation, as a senior flanker and earned M.V.P honors. He made an immediate impact for the Xmen, scoring a try on his first play as a collegiate rugby player when the team squared off against the Fairfield Yankees RFC a couple of weeks ago.

When asked about their expectations for the showcase, the players said, “We are all very excited to be representing Sacred Heart and the Xmen. It’s a great opportunity to better our skills and show everyone what SHU Rugby is all about.”
