Club Softball Announces Coaching Additions

Fairfield, CT - On August 31st, Head Coach Ray Mencio announced a multiple coaching staff changes for the upcoming season. After five consecutive appearances at Regionals and two consecutive division titles, the Pioneers will gear up again on Labor Day weekend with the goal of reaching the NCSA World Series.

Mike Twerago was promoted from Assistant Coach to Associate Head Coach. Twerago joined the staff in 2012 as a part time volunteer and in 2014 was given the role of bench coach during the season in which the Pioneers reached their first ever NCSA World Series. With the success of the team and the growth Twerago was named as the assistant coach. He will continue with his current responsibilities as well as overseeing practice squad player development and increased responsibilities with recruiting.   

Nicole Deissler will return to the role of Assistant Coach after coming out of retirement in 2017-2018. After sitting out the 2016-2017 season recovering from a torn UCL, Deissler made her debut with club softball hitting .459 with 18 RBIs and 9 stolen bases and being named to the North Atlantic All Conference Team. Deissler will work directly with Mencio on recruitment efforts as well as working with infielders.

Makenna DiGuilio was a key addition to the staff.  After a stellar 4 year career at Fairfield University on their Division I program and serving as a captain her senior year, DiGuilio brings experience and professionalism to the team. She brings a new and fresh view to the team. DiGuilio will assist in all aspects of coaching as well as team development, recruitment and working with outfielders.
