Sacred Heart Club Sports and Director Ray Mencio named Dave Jurasek as the new Club Hockey Head Coach.
Dave comes to SHU from the ACHA (American Collegiate Hockey Association) where he has served as the current ACHA Northeast Coordinator, the Commissioner of the Super East Collegiate Hockey League and is also a sitting board member of the American Hockey Coaches Association where he represents the ACHA. Jurasek has overseen many changes in the NCHA, as well as overseeing a lot of great collegiate hockey played in the ACHA and the Super East Collegiate Hockey league.
“It is an honor to be part of the Sacred Heart University family. Sacred Heart is dedicated to the betterment of its students and is one of the best colleges in the country.” Jurasek continued, “I am looking forward to coaching the young men of the Ice Hockey Club. Since the team's inception they have continually put forth a highly competitive product on the ice as indicated by their appearance in the American Collegiate Hockey Association's Northeast Playoffs. Despite losing a number of Seniors this coming season, the team has a great opportunity to continue its winning tradition.”
In addition, Jurasek has a USA Hockey Level 5 Master’s certification to go with over 30 years of coaching experience which includes the ACHA, youth and prep school hockey. He has 15 years of coaching experience in the ACHA, having previously served as a coach for Western Connecticut State University from 1994-97 and again from 2001-2011.
Director of Club Sports Ray Mencio had a quick quote about the newest SHU Club hire. “Dave is a veteran Hockey coach who brings a great deal of experience and professionalism in a variety of roles at the college club level.” Mencio continued, “We are lucky to have him on board and I know that he can continue to help our program grow.”
A native of Boston, Jurasek graduated from Catholic Memorial High School in 1976. He then received his undergraduate degree from Nasson College in Springvale, ME and then earned his MBA from the University of Connecticut. Jurasek played three years of collegiate hockey at Nasson before becoming the first Midget level coach for the New Milford Youth Hockey league as well as the goaltending coach for the entire youth program.
Currently, Dave is the CFO of Crystal Rock Holdings, Inc and has been employed there for 21 years. Amongst other things, Jurasek also sits on the multiple Sclerosis Dinner of Champions Planning Committee. Dave and his wife currently reside in Watertown, Connecticut.
