New York, NY - The Sacred Heart Figure Skating kicked off their second qualifier of the season, at New York University, strong! Tessa Peredy won the preliminary dance, with Ruby Jusas earning three points for the team, and Natalie Castelli earning 2 points in the Dutch Waltz. Tessa, Genna Cypher, and Amanda Witkowski continued the momentum earning another 9.5 points in the Fiesta Tango. Juliet Melotto danced her heart out placing fourth in the Argentine Tango and Cha Cha Congelado, gaining the SHUFS 10 points! In the Novice Ladies Short Program, Alanna Kubik placed second alongside Victoria Huggan and Natalie placing fourth and fifth, respectively. Erin Regan and Ruby earned the team an additional 4 points in the Intermediate Ladies Short Program. Witkowski and Peredy earned 4th place in their Senior Ladies Short Programs, bringing home another 8 points. Pre-preliminary skater, Elise Jolie, also placed fourth! Cypher ended the day with a third place finish for a total of 60.5 points.
But the SHUFS didn’t stop there! Sunday started with Kailey Murphy and Lauren Weinstein earning 3 points for the team in the Juvenile level. Jusas and Regan came back stronger than ever with a second and fifth place finish, respectively, as our Intermediate level skaters. Kubik placed 3rd in the Novice Ladies Free Skate. Also, Novice skaters, Huggan and Castelli gained 3 additional points for the SHUFS. Peredy won the Senior Ladies Free Skate with Witkowski placing third. Rounding out the free skate events the team had Cypher take home the gold! Team maneuvers ended the competition with the SHUFS low team earning one point, medium team earning 4 points, and high team earning 3 points. Overall, great results for the SHU Figure Skating team, making history again, earning over 100 points in one competition! They also ended the qualifier with a 3rd place finish and a ticket to the Intercollegiate National Championships! Minnesota, here they come!!
