Mansfield, CT- This past weekend, the Sacred Heart Club Gymnastics team placed fourth overall in their competition hosted by UCONN Club Gymnastics. The SHU Club team faced the top national team in the NAIGC, as well as another nationally ranked team. The Pioneers began on floor, again working on presentation and finishing all of their skills. Sophomore, Emily Petro, had a standout routine, sticking her landings and having fun with her dance. The team then moved to the vault where freshman, Sydney Abate, competed her high flying front handspring, and all other seven competitors stuck their landings. On uneven bars, sophomore and captain, Caroline Sordello was a standout; connecting her full bar routine, complete with an impressive toe up. SHU Club Gymnastics’ final event was the balance beam. A notoriously tricky event, the team was able to stay confident and complete their routines. Sophomore, Brielle Ciccio, stuck her back handspring series, staying optimistic throughout her first time competing this year.
After spring break, the SHU Gymnastics team heads to a meet hosted by Merrimack College on March 24th, and is hosting their own meet at home on March 31st. Check back for more season highlights by clicking on the following link: sacredheartclubsports.com
