The Pioneers are looking to build off a solid ending to the previous season and have been putting in the effort this preseason to make vital improvements. The goal for the Pioneers is to lead the NCLL New England Conference and secure a bid to the NCLL tournament in Philadelphia, after having missed out the past few seasons.
The team will be led by first-year head coach, Ben Ketcham, as he transitions from the assistant coach role. Returning to the team, captains Matt Depietro (Sr.), Clay Switzer (Sr.), Jack Sulivan (Sr.), and goalie, Connor Leahy (So.) will be crucial in the team’s success on and off the field. The Pioneers are expecting big things this season from attackmen Ryan Bramble (Sr.) and Aidan Cain (Sr.) who will be important in leading the offense, as well as Johnny Brown (So.) and Mike Calisto (Sr.) working the midfield and helping to connect the solid defensive front to create opportunities around the crease.
The Pioneers will start their search for a conference championship on Saturday, February 23rd when they host crosstown rival and conference opponent, Fairfield University, at Campus Field. The team will be back in action the next day as they travel to Hempstead, NY for a round robin with Hofstra and NYU. Some other opposition the Pioneers will face are Stony Brook, Vermont, Fordham, Holy Cross, UMASS-Amherst, and Yale. In addition, the team will welcome unchartered, competitive play from two MCLA division teams, University of Rhode Island and University of Bridgeport. The Pioneers are optimistic that they have the toughness and grit to be successful this season.
