Grover and Schiffman Combine for over 30 Digs - Women's Volleyball Recap

South Orange, NJ-  On Saturday 3/23/2019 the Women’s Club Volleyball team competed in their fourth tournament of the spring season at Seton Hall University. 

In the first match of pool play Sacred Heart faced Bloomsburg.  Sacred Heart got off to a slow start in the first set fell 21-25.  In the second set, Sacred Heart fought back but couldn’t hold off Bloomsburg and lost 23-25.

Senior Kristina DeMarco – 4 kills, 16 digs

Freshman Mairead Grover – 2 aces, 5 kills, 7 digs

Freshman Daphne Schiffman – 2 aces, 7 digs, 15 assists

After a close game in the first set, Sacred Heart came out fiercely against Seton Hall.  SHU dominated the first set winning 25-12.  Seton Hall came out strong in the second and Sacred Heart was unable to stop them.  Sacred Heart fell in the second match 17-25.  After a rough defeat, Sacred Heart dominated again in the third set winning 15-3.

Freshman Daphne Schiffman – 18 assists, 6 digs, 1 kill

Senior Kristina DeMarco – 3 kills, 14 digs, 1 ace

Junior Christina Sanciangco – 19 digs, 3 ace

Freshman Mairead Grover – 10 kills, 4 digs

The third match of pool play was against Delaware B.  Sacred Heart struggled in the beginning of the first match, but fought back.  Unfortunately an injury for Sacred Heart derailed their progress and they lost 17-25.  Sacred Heart had another difficult start in the second match, but again fought back, closing a 10 point deficit.  Unfortunately it was not enough and Sacred Heart lost 16-25.

Senior Kristina DeMarco – 3 kills, 10 digs

Freshman Daphne Schiffman – 9 assists, 1 dig

Freshman Mairead Grover – 3 kills, 9 digs

Sacred Heart struggled throughout the day, and finished last place in pool play.  Freshman Mairead Grover had a great day with 18 kills, 2 aces, 20 digs.  Freshman Daphne Schiffman finished the day with 43 assists, 14 digs, 2 aces, and 1 kill.  Sacred Heart finishes their season by hosting league championships on April 14th in the Pitt Center.
