Former D1 Athlete Turned Club Weightlifter to Compete in University National Championships

Fairfield, CT – SHU Club Weightlifting Coach and Sacred Heart Professor Chris Taber announced that former Sacred Heart D1 Football player Dylan Ackerson will be competing for Sacred Heart at the University National Championship in Las Vegas on March 10th! Dylan was a standout defensive end/linebacker for the Pioneers through his undergraduate years at SHU and upon his retirement from football, he wanted to join the weightlifting team. Since joining the team, Dylan has made rapid progress in all his lifts and qualified for his first National Event this past fall.

Coach Taber stated, “We are excited to see Dylan compete in Las Vegas. He has been training hard for the past year and we are ready to see that work pay off.”

Dylan’s best lifts todate are 115kg (255lb) snatch and 145kg (320 lb) clean and jerk. In addition to lifting, Dylan is a full time nurse and works for Yale Medical Center as a NICU nurse. He does an impressive job balancing work and training. He is part of one of the faster growing club sport teams on campus, which started with 5 members and has quadrupled to 20 team members in a few short months. Dylan will be competing in one of the top sections of this event in the 102 kg weight class.
